Group ShowPresented by Baumgartner Gallery November 10, 2006- December 6, 2006Peter Acheson, Chris Martin, Andrew MasulloBaumgartner Gallery is pleased to present a group show of Peter Acheson, Chris Martin, and Andrew Masullo.These artists are part of the recent reinvention and re-invigoration of contemporary abstract painting. Each painter in his own way presents images of a reality in which energy resides in anonymity. Masullo mines modernism for structures that ask only to be carried out honestly and carefully. Martin seeks the archetypal essence of presence in image. Acheson finds places where image gives way to energy and evidences imagination. All the paintings in this show point inward. Each artist counts Forrest Bess a grandfather. Painting for them is a path. They are not concerned with a signature image. Chris Martin has written, "Abstract painting is a search for freedom. This freedom cannot be found in style, or in details, or in large size, any particular forms, or in computers, new materials, old materials, or in trying to find the end of some daydream railroad track of art history. This freedom is found inside. There is no inside and there is no outside."
