| Highstein 2006February 18, 2006- March 15, 2006 Baumgartner Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent sculptures and works on paper by Jene Highstein.
A postminimalist sculptor best known for large, monolithic forms, Highstein’s newest body of work explores the same iconic forms at a more intimate scale. Made of blown and slumped glass, hand-manipulated copper, or cast paper, Highstein’s signature funnel and vortex shapes become fluid and delicate. The more vessel-like shapes remain pregnant in a semi-transparent state. The translucency of the forms makes their volume more apparent.
The sculptures are shown with a selection of current drawings that allude to the pleasure of applying watercolor to mulberry paper.
