Featured artists include: Dino Aresca, Rosaspina Buscarino Canosburi, Nicoletta Casali, Anna Maria Chiarvetto, Roberto Franzoni, Gianfranco Meggiato, Rosy Sgro, Alessandra Spranzi, and Thula. Curator Stefania Carrozzini brings together a variety of media, including painting, installation, photography, and sculpture Awakening will be on view from April 24th through May 14th, 2007, with an opening reception held on Thursday, April 26th, from 6pm to 8pm. A performance piece, “The Sleeping Beauty” by artist Ariel Vera will be featured along with selected poetry readings.
Awakening represents a complex sensorial experience for the viewer; the event is positioned as a platform for contemplation within a concept of art as a vehicle for awakening. The gallery becomes a temple and the exhibit a cognitive experiment, a means to interpret and “report on” all that surrounds us. Awakening invites the viewer to examine oneself within their environment through works both complex and contradictory. In her exhibition essay, Stefania Carrozzini describes art and visual communication as modes that transport us to a “magical world of inner reality revealed through emotions and sensations.”
Awakening is a part of program of special poetry lectures events organized by D’Ars IEP International Exhibition Project (Milan – New York – Beijing). An extensive catalogue accompanies the exhibition and is available at The Carrozzini Von Buhler Gallery.
