When I was in Europe in June, I had the opportunity to see the Los Angeles 1955-1985 exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The show brought back great memories for me of my life in L.A. when I was publishing Artforum. Though the show in Paris was expansive, it was far from conclusive in its overview of the dynamic L.A. art scene. Our exhibition will try to add to the dialogue recognizing L.A. as the great cultural influence it is. You'll see in the above list that we're including artists that not only originate from L.A., but also others who have paid homage to it and took inspiration from it in various media.
