The Black Estate, an artist collaborative between Scott Pagano and Noah MacDonald, whose work is driven equally by technology and the hand of the artists; each frame of these hauntingly beautiful and surreal video works entail both hand drawn imagery and computer generated mobility; the two combine to create a new generation of imagined reality. Concern for the sacredness of nature and the current state of our environment is evident in the work of these artists; field and tree take on mortal characteristics. Their message is a metaphor for the eternal cycle of life and regeneration, expressive and suggestive of human striving and introspection. By questioning the validity of Man’s attempt at a technological triumph over nature, The Black Estate raises our awareness of the fragility of nature, in this way the work of art rises out of a sensitivity towards habitat. Harking back to the then revolutionary 10th century ink wash masters, The Black Estate align themselves with beliefs that still ring true: a work of visual art must incorporate not only exquisite technique but equally if not more so there must be Spirit, Rhythm, and a Balance, representing both visible forms and their deeper significance to the world at large. This is a goal for these artists; welcome to The Black Estate.
