ClampArt is proud to present for the first time in New York City Jill Greenberg’s landmark series, “End Times.” Jill Greenberg writes: "Nothing is more pure than the anguish of a child. Pictures of children crying capture raw emotion: sputtering rage and profound loss. In many ways we’ve become desensitized to disturbing images. But the honesty of a child’s feelings is undeniable. . . Perhaps because kids experience the kind of powerful emotions that we, as adults, have suppressed in ourselves." Certainly, as a mother of two, Greenberg knows firsthand how quickly and unexpectedly storms of grief can sweep across the face of a toddler. Liam, the first little boy that that Greenberg set out to photograph, dissolved into a fit of unhappy sobs before becoming hysterically upset in front of the lens of the camera. Liam’s outburst strangely reminded Greenberg of the helplessness and anger she felt about the nations’ current political situation. It made her consider her own outrage at our false reasons for going to war with Iraq and the scandalous way in which the conflict was sold to the American people. Liam’s tantrum also brought to mind the artist’s feelings of rage and frustration concerning our government’s disinterest in the environment and climate change. Greenberg titled the photograph "Four More Years." Greenberg comments: “As any new parent will tell you, the future suddenly becomes a very serious concern. . . As a parent I have to reckon with the knowledge that our children will suffer for the mistakes our government is making.
