| Close at HandOctober 25, 2007- December 28, 2007 Mariana Cook was born in New York City in 1955. The last protégée of Ansel Adams,
Cook is best known for her intimate character studies of people both in and out of the
public eye. Her photographs are held in a number of national and international
collections, including those of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the
National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. and the Victoria and Albert Museum in
London. Mariana Cook’s previous books include the monograph Manhattan Island to My
Self and the much acclaimed Fathers and Daughters, Mothers and Sons, Generations of
Women, and Couples (all four published by Chronicle Books). Faces of Science was
published by W.W. Norton in fall 2005. Her latest book of photographs, Close at Hand, is
published by Quantuck Lane Press, distributed by W. W. Norton. She lives in New York
City with her husband and daughter.
