The City of Naples will host the Universal Forum of Culture 2013: a key event, in the course of which cultures and citizens from around the world will meet and engage in dialogue in an atmosphere of openness and creativity. The Universal Forum of Cultures is established with the objective of creating, for the largest possible number of people, new opportunities for reflection and dialogue on the problems associated with the acceleration of globalization processes and new uncertainties and opportunities of today’s world. The players during the event are not the individual states but civilian spokespeople who represent their local communities and non-governmental organizations interested in the themes of the Forum and who are one of the 191 member states of UNESCO. The objective is to leave behind heritage of a knowledge, experience, relations and documentation on the themes covered.
Originality, innovation and continuity are the keywords for the Universal Forum of Culture 2013. The Forum of 2013 intends to start from these subjects to arrive to a re-identify the equilibrium which is able to establish the importance of cities and citizens. The theme and slogan of the 2013 Universal Forum of Cultures will be: “The Memory of the Future: knowing ones roots for planning a common future”. This theme expresses the desire to consider Naples and the Forum as a temporal gateway between the past, present and future. In addition to the three fundamental themes, which are the very heart of the event, there is a fourth theme that could be defined as Urban Modernization, i.e. a series of initiatives for the valorization and renewal of the urban environment.
