Ten paintings by New York artist Victoria Gotti Senior will be on view at the MW Gallery from November 16 through November 23. Victoria Gotti has shocked critics and art collectors alike proving she is more then just an infamous name, but gifted artist.
The human form is the central motif in virtually all of Gotti’s work. The figures are painted in rich colors, and maintain a position of powerful ambiguity. Gotti has developed a distinctive vernacular, balancing subjects within rhythmic compositions patterned with color and light.
The New York Times featured her last show on its cover and a ‘well known Warhol collector had mentioned her name in the same breathe as Matisse and Milton Avery.’ Doughba Hamilton Caranda-Martin, an owner of the gallery who hosted her last show dubbed her work as having “a classic realist feel” and reflected a “strong sense of composition.” Life experiences and people who have passed in and out of her life are reflected in her work. Gotti counts Liberace, Roger Williams, and Flyod Cramer as main influencers.
Victoria Gotti resides in Howard Beach New York. Her work has been exhibited at the Gale Martin Gallery and Chelsea Museum. Some of her works are currently on display at the Patterson Museum.
