CoBrA

May 24, 2007- June 16, 2007

Karel Appel, Pierre Alechinsky, Eugene Brands, Corneille, Asger Jorn

Starting May 24th the Robinsons and DJT Fine Art Gallery, in Chelsea, will be bringing to New York one of the largest exhibits dedicated to the CoBrA movement and its impact on European Abstract Expressionism. This historical work, showcased from a private collection, will range from $7,000 to $200,000; and will be available the American public for viewing only until June 16th. The name CoBrA, was derived from the initials of the members' home cities: Copenhagen is the head, Brussels is the body, and Amsterdam is the tail of the Cobra. This post-World War II European avant-garde movement characterized by bright primary colors, violent brushstrokes and child-like naïve delivery resulted from the conscious rebuke of the devastation caused by the war. The movement’s influence on European Abstract and American Action Painting has been immense.
