| Novalis: What Would I Be Without YouFebruary 7, 2008- March 8, 2008Reception: February 7, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Stux Gallery is pleased to present the second New York solo exhibition by Contemporary German master painter, Kuno Gonschior. In this new complex body of work Gonschior furthers the meaning of 'color theory' by reinvigorating the field of minimal abstraction with both the analytical and radical. Though Gonschior's work hints of a calculated encryption, it is actually entirely intuitive and thoroughly heartfelt. He none-the-less redefines 20th century color modernism work through the ephemerality and openly personal content imbued in each potent 'dab' on the raw linen. This exhibition's namesake, the 18th century poet Novalis, was aptly selected as a fellow artist intent on merging science with art.
Kuno Gonschior was born in Wanne-Eickel, Germany and lives and works near Dusseldorf. A former professor of painting at The Kunstacademie in Dusseldorf and Berlin, he is a contemporary of Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Polke. His works have been shown internationally for the past five decades in innumerable group and solo exhibitions and are included in many prominent museums and private collections.
