17th Annual Juried ExhibitionPresented by Viridian Artists, Inc. July 6, 2006- July 26, 2006Reception: June 6, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pmRobert Rosenblum, Curator Viridian Artists Inc. is pleased to present its Seventeenth National Juried Exhibition featuring the work of exciting and accomplished artists in a range of media and disciplines, selected by Robert Rosenblum of the Guggenheim Museum and New York University. There will be a reception for the artists & their guests, Thursday, July 6, 6-- 8 pm.This is the third season that Professor Rosenblum has juried this highly competitive exhibition with artists from across the United States submitting more than 2500 slides. To accommodate the overwhelming response in this heavily competitive art world, Viridian Artists' seeks is to provide a New York exhibition opportunity to as many deserving artists as possible, providing both a group exhibit for the winners and a slide show to the runners-up. In addition, the first prize winner, Al Pierce will be awarded a solo show next season, and sharing a two person exhibit will be the second prize winner, Tatham Smith and third prize winner, Jesse Scaturro. About the curatorial process, Rosenblum states, “Practical realities demand snap judgments, and instant responses of yes or no may be prompted by fatigue or hunger rather than sustained consideration. But I hope that despite what mistakes may have been made, something fresh and varied has emerged here as well as something that will mirror the way artists see the world today.” “The range of possibilities, from loony fantasy to hyper-realism, from abstract geometries to visions of chaos, is infinite, a freedom of individual choice that keeps things jumping. This is the way it should be. Otherwise, we would be very bored, and one thing that I'm sure this show will not be is boring.” The reception will be a celebratory evening and will provide an opportunity for guests to meet winning artists.
