I attempt to explore the power of cultural icons and their relevance to contemporary equivalents of the religious sublime. By using personas that range from the charismatic, to the unsettling, to the worshipped I throw into question the cultural paradigms of contemporary culture. |
| Posted: 2007-02-06 | Born in San Antonio, TX in 1981, Zane Lewis received a BFA in 2004 from the Atlanta College of Art in Georgia. Also in 2004 he was the youngest artist ever to exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Georgia. Recent one-person exhibitions include Pink Lemonade: The Procession at DiverseWorks, Houston and Fountains at Finesilver Gallery, San Antonio. Lewis’ work has been exhibited at Pulse: New York, Pulse: Miami and ART 212 in New York. He was recently featured in New American Paintings-Western Edition and selected for the back-cover image. He also has been selected as a nominee for the 2007 Arthouse Texas Prize of $30,000. In 2006 Zane was listed in the Wall Street Journal as one of the “23-Year-Old Masters” and in 2007 will participate in a Vermont Studio Center Residency. Zane Lewis lives and works in San Antonio. |
